The West Region of the Associated Press Sports Editors will hold its fall meeting Nov. 14 at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications in Phoenix.
Lisa Love and Greg Byrne, athletic directors at Arizona State and Arizona, respectively, are scheduled to speak to the group of western state sports editors and journalism students from the Cronkite School.
The meeting will run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Registration is $20 and includes lunch.

Planned sessions:
–Back to Sunday: For many of us, a re-emphasis on our largest print product has been vital, and the results noticeable. We'll talk strategy, success stories/best practices, and take a look at a "Best ideas" slideshow presentation that concentrates on Sundays.
–Feeding your watchdog: Watchdog reporting is undoubtedly our most important franchise and the area of journalism that will keep us relevant in the face of constant competition. When looking for watchdog opportunities in sports, one mantra is the tried-and-true "follow the money." Two examples of this from the Arizona Republic this year was uncovering the Fiesta Bowl scandal, and looking at wasteful spending by the state's high school athletics association. Panel discussion with the reporters who worked both of those projects, as well as takeaways for editors on how to generated watchdog in their shops.
–Management doctor: A chance to ask a panel of sports editors how they do their jobs in a changing world, and get advice on sticky situations large and small. Kicking this off is a look at how leadership training for managers has become a big factor at the Arizona Republic the past two years.
–Content partnerships: Are they our salvation or another cross to bear? A look at industry trends in this area, successes and failures, and what might lie ahead.
