The Buffalo News is seeking a Night Sports Editor to join its APSE Triple Crown-winning team.

Buffalo has a passionate fan base that actually jumps through tables for its teams and has high expectations for the athletes and organizations that represent Western New York from high schools to pros. It has equally high expectations from the sports media. The Buffalo News team enjoys meeting that challenge every day in print and digital coverage, photography and design as it continues to innovate to those demands. The Buffalo News is looking for a leader who can help it continue to evolve.

The ideal candidate can write catchy headlines for print and digital, catch mistakes others miss, quickly compile roundups and turn around a late-breaking, section-front story.

Strong news judgment and instincts are a must.

The candidate should also have the ability to work with others to plan sections and manage copy flow for print and digital.

The Buffalo News is an award-winning news organization with the largest staff of journalists in upstate New York and a history of breaking the area’s big stories and investing in the stories that matter.

The Buffalo News strives to hire talented and dedicated people who reflect the diversity of the communities it serves. People of all backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply.

Why Buffalo? The region is a lot more than wings and snow. The city has seen a resurgence that makes it an exciting time to work and live there. Aside from professional sports teams, the city has a philharmonic, a growing waterfront, a burgeoning medical campus and plenty of attitude. Not to mention Niagara Falls, beautiful hikes and ski slopes all within a short drive.

Applicants should submit a resume, cover letter and work samples to Executive Sports Editor Josh Barnett at jbarnett@buffnews.com.
