This is a newly created position, working in collaboration with the sports, engagement and video teams, to extend the reach of our sports coverage on social media and video platforms. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute and own the sports social media and engagement strategy with guidance from Senior Deputy Editor, Engagement, Sports & Culture, and Deputy Editor, Sports, for Tampa Bay Times sports-related accounts.
  • Create fan-engaging content across all platforms, including tampabay.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube
  • Oversee the positioning, writing and accuracy of daily social posts
  • Actively engage and respond to followers and brainstorm new ways to encourage social conversation between our journalists and readers
  • Seek out new audiences for our sports journalism across different social platforms
  • Advise and collaborate with sports editors and reporters on engagement projects 
  • Work closely with the photo & video team on sharing and creating visuals, including for sports Instagram and YouTube accounts
  • Produce live video streams with game and breaking news analysis from sports reporters and columnists 
  • Produce sports newsletters 
  • Expect to work nights and weekends, as it aligns with team schedules

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related field
  • Experience in crafting graphic designs on a tight deadline, and longer projects, for social media and online preferred
  • Familiarity with social media publishing platforms, Later.com and SocialFlow specifically
  • Clean writing with a clear sense of appropriate voice for sports-based channels
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop and Premiere
  • Experience in video editing and live streaming
