APSE President Mary Byrne has appointed Dana Sulonen to fill the organization’s second vice president slot, effective immediately. Sulonen will finish the term of Todd Adams, who is not able to complete his term in accordance with APSE bylaws.

Sulonen will serve until the APSE Summer Conference in Charlotte in June. Newly-elected officers Jeff Rosen of The Kansas City Star and John Bednarowski of the Marietta Daily Journal will take office at the conference.

Sulonen became the Sports Editor at the Opelika-Auburn News in 2014. Prior to moving to SEC Country, Sulonen was the sports editor at the Tribune Chronicle in Warren, Ohio.

Sulonen has been a member of APSE since 2013 and has been a part of each judging and web judging since joining. She has served as the Southeast Region Vice Chairman since November 2015. She was an APSE Diversity Fellow in 2014, is a member of AWSM and a member of the Alabama Sports Writers Association. She’s also an adjunct professor of journalism at Auburn University.

She has led the O-A News sports department to an APSE Grand Slam in 2014 and Triple Crown in 2015.
