The Richmond Times-Dispatch is seeking a Metro/Local Government Editor to join its award-winning staff. The Metro/Local Government team at the RTD consists of four reporters and a columnist, and covers not only education and local government in the Big Four localities in the Richmond area – Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico counties, along with the City of Richmond – but also tells the stories of the people who live there.

The ideal candidate would have at least two years’ experience as an editor, managing reporters, assignments, budgets and schedules. Digital and multi-media experience is a must, as well. This is one of the most crucial and critical positions at the paper, as it not only heads up one of the biggest teams, but it also will have a say in where our coverage goes and expands as we continue to blaze the trail in the digital-first world of breaking news, storytelling and video.

Interested candidates should email Managing Editor Mike Szvetitz at mszvetitz@timesdispatch.com with a resume, cover letter and three examples of stories or projects that you were deeply involved in editing from start to finish, with notes about how you took it from inception to completion, including hurdles, challenges and/or obstacles you faced.
