The Sentinel, a Lee Enterprises newspaper, is looking for a sports editor to join its management team in Carlisle, Pa.
Combined with cumberlink.com, The Sentinel provides digital and print coverage for Cumberland County (population 255,000) in central Pennsylvania. That coverage includes a long tradition of producing excellent content for high school sports as well as three local colleges.
This job requires independent thinking, great communication skills, and a bachelor’s degree in a related area as well as at least two years of experience. Management experience is a plus.
The sports editor will coordinate planning and coverage for an audience that includes five core high schools as part of a group of 15 schools in our coverage area. Youth and recreation sports are also in high demand in our area, along with minor league baseball and hockey.
Digital comes first with an emphasis on video, social media and engaging our digital audience. Our print product publishes six days a week, and the sports editor coordinates page production with our Lee Enterprises design desk.
Other duties include budgeting and editing copy with our night editor, project planning with our Lee Enterprises sports group, and website updates with our Sentinel management team. The job requires mainly night shifts and weekend work.
Carlisle has a population of just over 19,000 and serves as the county seat. The town sits home to Dickinson College as well as the U.S. Army War College. The area is within two hours drive time of Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington D.C., and 3 hours drive time to Pittsburgh.
