The Sentinel, a Lee Enterprises newspaper in Carlisle, Pa., is looking for a versatile reporter to join its team who can cover sports, breaking news and feature news assignments. It’s the perfect chance to build a diverse portfolio.

Combined with cumberlink.com, The Sentinel provides digital and print coverage for Cumberland County (population 255,000) in central Pennsylvania. That coverage includes a long tradition of producing excellent content for local news and high school sports.

This job requires independent thinking, great communication skills, and a bachelor’s degree in a related area. Reporting experience is a plus.

We are looking for a quick study willing to learn the ropes of different beats; someone who is adept at multi-tasking and can work under tight deadlines.

A typical week for this hybrid reporter likely will include some or all of the following:

  • Covering high school sporting events in season in an in-depth way that includes social media, shooting video and writing a concise story under deadline.
  • Covering breaking news, writing sports and news features and developing web content to enhance coverage of hard news issues and events.

Digital comes first with an emphasis on video, social media and engaging our digital audience. Our print product publishes six days a week, and we coordinate page production with our Lee Enterprises design desk.
