The Standard Democrat newspaper is searching for an up-and-coming sports writer to cover primarily high school sporting events as well as special features for 11 high schools. Strong writing skills, attention to detail and keen organizational abilities. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the fundamentals of various sports, computer skills and the uses of social media. Skills in basic photography and page design is helpful, but not required. The newspaper publishes five days a week with sports writers working during the afternoons and evenings. Schedules are flexible. Benefits include health insurance and 401K.
