APSE Mid-Atlantic Region chair
A combination APSE mid-Atlantic workshop and Temple Sports Journalism Summit will be held Monday, Oct. 29, at the Howard Gittis Student Center 200B, at 12th and Montgomery streets in Philadelphia. Registration, coffee and continental breakfast will start at 9 a.m.
The first session will begin at 9:45 a.m. This program will have a little different twist to what we've done with these regional meetings in the past. We'll circulate this heavily on campus to draw area college students. In terms of recruitment for APSE, that's one of our next frontiers to bolster the ranks, but it also gives aspiring communications majors a chance to mingle with media professionals from around the region.
Many of those who have accepted invitations to participate on the panels are Temple alumni, something else we strived to do in organizing this (hopefully annual) event.
There is no charge for attending; I only ask that you RSVP by Oct. 24 so Temple can order the food. The lone cost you would incur is parking, although there is a garage on or near campus where the cost is around $10/day. Obviously, you can also get there by a train, subway or bus.
We will be holding a networking/job fair over lunch. If you'd like to represent your organization, just let me know. I don't think packets are necessary; just the idea of being able to answer the questions of students about jobs is a valuable part of this.
We're are hoping to live-stream the event.

11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. — Finding your career path: Navigating a changing media world. Moderator: Matthew Fine, Assistant Professor, Temple Department of Media Studies and Production
12:15 to 1:30 p.m. — Lunch and job fair and general networking
1:30 to 2:30 p.m. -– Best practices of social media for reporting and branding: A look at tools such as Sulia, Yardbarker, Twitter and more. Matt Romanoski, executive sports producer for philly.com; Matt Mullin and Ryan Petzar, philly.com; Matt Gelb and Keith Pompey, Philadelphia Inquirer sportswriters; Audrey Snyder, Harrisburg Patriot-News sportswriter. 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. — The money side of sports.
