Time is running out to register for the 2010 Associated Press Sports Editors Web contest. Deadline is Oct. 8.

Some exciting changes are in store for Year Two.

Entries will be split into three categories (up from two in the 2009 contest) based on your total monthly traffic in terms of unique users. That should provide a better measure of how entrants stand against their peers.

Two random dates (up from one in ’09) will be used to judge the sites. This will provide a better barometer of the content offerings you provide your users.

In addition, a multimedia category will be added. The multimedia portion of the contest will be judged by a panel selected at our Winter meeting and judging in Indianapolis in February.

To enter please send an email to APSE Executive Director Jack Berninger (jackapse@aol.com) with the following information:

1. Name of newspaper.

2. Total unique users per month

3. Sports editor submitting entry.

General contest guidelines:

Content (55 percent). Stories, videos, blogs, graphics, other multimedia items.
Design (35 percent). Look, feel, navigation.
Interactive elements (10 percent). Comments, polls, chats.

The contest judging panels will select a top 10 and honorable mentions in each of the three traffic categories and multimedia. Judging dates and judges have been determined by APSE vice presidents Michael Anastasi and Gerry Ahern.
