Dan Spears

Dan Spears of the Wilmington StarNews has been elected APSE Third Vice-President. He fills the position previously won by Justin Pelletier of the Sun Journal in Lewiston, Maine. After winning the initial election, Pelletier accepted a job as sports editor of the Boston Herald, making him ineligible for the Third V-P spot, which represents APSE’s smallest member organizations.

Spears replaces Third Vice-President Robert Gagliardi of The Laramie Boomerang, who has served admirably in the position for the past two years. At the StarNews, Spears oversees two sports editors for four papers (including Wilmington) as well as digital projects. He also coordinates statewide sports coverage for GateHouse’s papers in the Carolinas. Spears has been a member of APSE since 2006 and is the current Atlantic Coast Region Chair..

APSE thanks Spears and Emily Horos of the American News in Aberdeen, South Dakota, for agreeing to participate as candidates in the runoff election.
