Newsday takes first place in Over-175K Project Reporting

A seven-person team from Newsday won first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in Project writing for the Over 175,000 circulation category. Jim Baumbach, Neil Best, Robert Cassidy, Bob Glauber, Mark La Monica, Kimberley A. Martin and Tom Rock won for a series examining the challenges faced by NFL players when their careers come to an end.

NOLA.com takes first in 75-175K projects

The team of Jeff Duncan, Jim Kleinpeter, Evan Woodbery, Ron Higgins, John Reid, Katherine Terrell and Todd Masson of NOLA.com (New Orleans) won first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in projects for the 75-175,000 circulation category for their series of stories centered on the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Michael Cohen wins 30-75K Project contest

Michael Cohen of The Commercial Appeal (Memphis, Tenn.) won first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest for Projects in the 30,000-75,000 circulation category. Cohen won for his project on Memphis basketball and coach Josh Pastner.

Sun Journal team, Ryan Holmgren tie for first in Under 30K...

Ryan Holmgren of the Casper (Wyo.) Star-Tribune and the team of Kalle Oakes, Justin Pelletier, Fred Gage, Lauren Schneiderman, Carl Natale, Russ Dillingham and C. Ernie Anderson of the Sun Journal (Lewiston, Maine) tied for first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in the projects category in the Under-30,000 circulation category. The Sun Journal’s project looked back at the controversial 1965 heavyweight championship fight between Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston in Lewiston. Holmgren’s project examined the challenges of the University of Wyoming and other schools in the Mountain West.
