The Citizens’ Voice in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., seeks a full-time sports reporter to cover professional hockey and write occasional columns.

Our hockey reporter earned his way to cover an NHL team for a major metropolitan newspaper with 16 years of exceptional minor-league hockey coverage. We’re seeking a similar writer capable of taking the lead on a highly competitive beat in a rich media market. We want a writer with a deep knowledge of hockey as well as reporting skills to find interesting and important stories on and off the beat.

This reporter needs to have exceptional journalism skills, a proven record of developing sources and the ability to file stories on a tight deadline. The bar has been set high for online coverage and it is important that the new beat reporter composes interesting multimedia layers for our growing digital editions. We are looking for a strong journalist who embraces new media, social media and deadline reporting.

The Citizens’ Voice is in a two-newspaper town and  is a member of the Associated Press Sports Editors. The Voice recently earned six top-10 finishes in the annual APSE national contest.

Deadline is June 12.

Interested candidates can email resume, cover letter and clips to Sports Editor Jim Reeser at jreeser@citizensvoice.com.
